YOUNG Sables coach Shaun De Souza says his players sacrificed a lot for them to defend their Barthes Cup with a 28-7 win over Kenya in the final in Nairobi on Sunday.
He said: “People always see the end product but never the hard work and the sacrifice made by players and coaches to achieve such greatness.
“Even after all that effort and dedication, with back-to-back titles, besides the trophies, there is still nothing to show for it.”
He says he has drawn some positives from the tournament.
“Planning is everything, stick to your plans and back them all the way, no matter what.”
The win saw them qualify for the Junior World Trophy to be held later this year in Kenya.
With this dominance at junior level, Zim’s rugby future appears to be in safe hands.
“The success of the Junior Sables should definitely be a foundation block for the senior teams.
“The JWT qualification was part of the plan and we are over the moon to achieve that status
“For now, we will take a short break and then regroup and start preparations mid-May for JWT,” he said.
