ZANU-PF youths in Manicaland have called on organs of the party to work together and shun divisions as doing so will give the opposition mileage to mislead Zimbabweans into believing that a free-for-all situation now prevails in the ruling party.
Addressing a Press Conference at a Mutare hotel on Monday, 16 members of the youth executive spoke in unison and said they were fully behind the party’s leadership and the ascendency of the First Lady, Amai Grace Mugabe, to national secretary of the women’s league.
“As the vanguard of the party, we are fully behind our party’s leadership as well as the elevation of Amai Mugabe to lead the women’s league.
“Yes, problems maybe there in the party, but we have internal mechanisms to resolve them. We should go back to the founding principles of our revolutionary party.
“We should not allow the enemy to gain ground because of unnecessary squabbles in the party. We know that the December congress is coming, but jostling for positions should not derail national programmes like Zim-Asset. As a party, we should work hard to fulfil our 2013 election promises we made to the electorate. Winning or losing an election is not the end of the world. Zimbabwe should move forward and thousands of youths out there want empowerment programmes that can change their lives for the better,” said Manicaland youth executive vice-chairman, Cde Mubuso Chinguno.
He said they only knew one faction headed by President Mugabe and nothing else.
“Yes, we agree that there is talk of factionalism in Zanu-PF, but the faction that we know and rally behind is the one which is headed by President Mugabe and his entire presidium as well as the Politburo. This is the Zanu-PF winning team which delivered the much-needed victory during last year’s harmonised elections. As youths, we will not allow divisive elements to take root in our organ,” he said.
Acting provincial secretary for administration, Cde Kudzi Madhara, said as youths they were prepared to name and shame all members using money to win leadership positions in the party.
“Like President Mugabe pointed out, money is being used to buy positions in the party, but as youth we cannot allow people with money to use their influence to divide people. From the history of Zanu-PF, we all know that leaders come from the people and we are prepared to name and shame all those using money,” he said.
Cde Madhara urged all affiliate organisations like ZICOSU not to meddle in party politics.
“Yes, we have affiliate organisations like student unions, but they should know their limits and not to meddle into politics, yet there are a lot of student issues and grievances which need their attention as their leaders,” said Cde Madhara.
