WHILE some might say Bulawayo no longer possesses the same beauty as it did in the past, one YouTuber has tasked herself to showcase the beauty and uniqueness of the city through content creation online.
Pride Karadze (22) is the face of the YouTube channel Pride Unscripted, whose channel features a variety of content from hiking trails, local eateries, the market square, and many other locations in Bulawayo.
She travels around the city documenting stories of the everyday lives of the people in Bulawayo and sharing videos online. In an interview, she said she made the decision to start the channel after seeing a lack of online content and information about the city and went on to say that her biggest inspiration was Dee Mwango, a YouTuber from Kenya.
“I was inspired by a Kenyan YouTuber whose content showcased the different cultures and tourist destinations in Kenya and decided to also start my channel that showcases local stories and life of everyday people,” said Karadze.
She also went on to say that although she has not yet reached the same number of subscribers and views as her inspiration with only having begun her channel less than a year ago and having nearly 400 subscribers and 50 000 views so far, she hopes soon she will be able to get many people interested in her work.
Furthermore, she stated that she was working on making a documentary series about the daily challenges and lives of girls in rural areas.“I want to make a documentary that shows challenges that girls in rural areas go through daily like fetching water from far away areas and balancing that with their education, among other aspects that I will be capturing.
“The biggest challenge that I face now as a content creator is getting equipment like cameras and speakers as right now I use my phone to capture moments which does not have the same quality of pictures and audio that a camera and speaker might have,” she said.
She also stated that being a content creator takes patience and dedication as one does not receive any payment unless they reach a certain number of subscriptions.
