Zanu-PF distances self from violence

Terminus in the city involving a group of assailants and commuter omnibus crews.
One person was injured during the scuffle.
Chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Wayne Bvudzijena yesterday confirmed investigations were in progress.

“There was a misunderstanding between the groups at the bus terminus resulting in a scuffle among themselves.
“We have, however, so far arrested seven people in connection with the case,” he said.
Snr Asst Comm Bvudzijena yesterday said the seven were still in police custody as investigations continued.

Meanwhile, Zanu-PF yesterday said its supporters were not behind the disturbances.
This comes after reports in some local media implicated Zanu-PF youths, Mbare-based Chipangano group.
The group reportedly wanted to seize control of the terminus.

Zanu-PF chairman for Harare Province, Cde Amos Midzi, yesterday said such reports were false and meant to tarnish the image of the party.
“I want to make it publicly clear that the articles in the so called independent Press alleging that whatever happened was orchestrated by Zanu-PF are absolutely false and deliberately crafted to malign the image of the party and its leader- ship.

“It is a known fact that each time that our President and First Secretary (President Mugabe) travels abroad to participate in international forums, issues are cooked up or raised that are intended to embarrass the person of our leader,” he said.

He said MDC was behind the skirmishes.
Zanu-PF Harare provincial youth chairman, Cde Jimu Kunaka, yesterday said the disturbances were among rank marshals at the bus terminus and not politically motivated.
“From what I heard, there were misunderstandings between the rank marshals and some Sunningdale residents over the control of the bus terminus.
“Zanu-PF was not even involved in the dispute,” he said.
“By the way, who identified during the misunderstandings that this one is a Zanu-PF supporter or youth or a member of the Chipangano?
“We are disciplined and people should not tarnish our image,” he said.
