Zanu-PF leaders urged to unite, focus on development goals

ZANU-PF organs and structures must desist from competing against each other and focus on working together to grow the party and ensure it achieves its national development agenda.

Speaking recently, during a ceremony to elect a committee for the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) in Matabeleland South, political commissar Cde Joel Mureremba, urged the new executive members to embrace unity, stating that the association will not tolerate members who insult and disrespect their leaders.

“We will not accept war veterans who insult their leaders. We do not expect a comrade who understands what we stand for as an association to insult our leaders,” he said.

“We have different structures under the party, which include the main wing, the war veterans’ association and the war veterans’ league, among others.

“We expect the leaders of all these structures to work together and unify the people. At the end of the day, we all have one common goal, which is to serve the party.

“Let us not fight each other in a bid to prove who is superior to whom, but instead, let us respect one another and work together. We are not in a competition; we have one goal and purpose,” said Cde Mureremba.

He added that, as the Zanu-PF-led Government remains focused on a development agenda, war veterans are expected to play their part.

Cde Mureremba recalled how, in the past, the revolution was centred on the fight to obtain resources, whereas now it has shifted to safeguarding them.

“We do not form factions as war veterans, as we came with the revolution. To those who have been elected into power, please, remember that you have been chosen by the people, and they expect you to represent them. If you find yourselves fighting over positions, then you are not war veterans,” he said.

The meeting saw Cde Samuel Mlauzi from Beitbridge being elected provincial chairman, defeating Cde Jabulani Dube from Gwanda District. Other executive members were appointed through consensus from members of the association.

Cde Nehemiah Nyathi from Insiza was appointed vice-chairman, Cde Sally Ncube from Gwanda as secretary for administration, and Cde Jethro Sibanda from Mangwe District as provincial commissar. Cde Joshua Moyo from Umzingwane was appointed secretary for security, while Cde Elizabeth Ndlovu from Matobo took the post of secretary for transport and welfare.

Cde Smart Tshuma from Bulilima District was appointed treasurer of the committee, with Cde Livson Nhlane from Insiza appointed as secretary for information and publicity.

Cde Mary Mpofu from Gwanda was named secretary for women’s affairs, while Cde Falcon Dube was appointed secretary for legal affairs.

In his acceptance speech, Cde Samuel Mlauzi pledged to work closely with Cde Jabulani Dube and other leaders.

“These positions should not divide us but rather help us establish a structure that makes it easier for us to work. I will work tirelessly to represent the association and its members in this province. I will also focus on unifying the association,” he said.

“As war veterans, we did not join Zanu-PF; rather, we are automatically an important arm of the party and we should fulfil our mandate.” —@DubeMatutu
