THE Zanu-PF Matabeleland North Province has unanimously recommended that President Mnangagwa remain in office beyond 2028, to ensure the fulfilment of developmental projects being pursued under Vision 2030.

This emerged during the Zanu-PF Matabeleland North Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting, which was held in Lupane on Friday. The meeting was meant for members to deliberate on the resolutions for the forthcoming Annual National People’s Conference.

All seven districts in the province recommended that President Mnangagwa stay in office until 2030.
The party’s provincial chairperson, Cde Richard Moyo, who is also the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Matabeleland North, said the province acknowledges and cherishes the visionary leadership of President Mnangagwa in spearheading the development of the country, through the Zimbabwe is open for business mantra.

“The province therefore resolves that the tenure of office of President Mnangagwa be extended beyond the year 2030 to allow him to drive the country towards the realisation of his Vision 2030. The Zanu-PF provincial chairman is appointed by the President and First Secretary of the party to enhance leadership capacity, loyalty, and strengthen unity of purpose,” said Cde Moyo.

The province also resolved that 1 July be declared a public holiday in recognition of the legacy of the late Vice-President Dr Joshua Nkomo. Dr Nkomo died on 1 July 1999.

The province also resolved that the Youth Parliamentary quota be reviewed upwards to increase the youth’s leadership representation at the national level.

In summarisation of the province’s nine resolutions, Cde Moyo said endorsing President Mnangagwa would ensure that all sectors will secure investment opportunities, socio economic growth, prosperity, promotion of unity, peace and stability through engagement and re-engagement towards the attainment of an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.

Cde Moyo said a greater appreciation of a new trajectory of accelerated economic growth and wealth creation through implementation of NDS1 and NDS2 successively will ensure that Vision 2030 is attained.

“The use of ZiG must be strengthened as legal tender by promoting and enforcing its use on essential services to preserve our national value and stability. Our Ministry of Mines must remove exclusive protection orders to allow local investors and youths to engage in mining activities.”

He said non-functioning special grants in the mining sector must be revoked to allow serious players a chance.

“In recognition of the exceptional servant leadership qualities by the President and First Secretary of Zanu-PF, His Excellency Cde Dr Mnangagwa and consistent with resolution number one of the 2024 Annual People’s Conference, we hereby re-echo the same sentiments calling for the extension of the term of office of the President from 2028 to 2030,” he said.

President Cde Mnangagwa

Cde Moyo said it is a prerequisite to gather views from the grassroots before each Annual National People’s Conference.

“We are preparing for the Annual National People’s Conference by making our resolutions. It is the norm that each time we go to a conference, we come up with resolutions and those come from the districts, so this meeting was meant to consolidate them,” said Cde Moyo.

He went on to thank President Mnangagwa for donating vehicles and funds to the party’s leadership, saying it will go a long way in strengthening party mobilisation and grassroots engagement.

Cde Moyo called on party members to take care of the vehicles and mobilise support for the party.

He said the gesture by President Mnangagwa will go a long way in growing party membership through strong mobilisation in the grassroots.

“All vehicles and money assigned to Zanu-PF members belong to the party and are assigned to advance the cause and interests of the revolutionary party as it prepares for the 2028 harmonised elections.”

“I want to thank His Excellency the President for his usual gesture to the party. This is quite commendable,” said Cde Moyo.

“The vehicles and money are not bound to an individual beneficiary but the person assigned to these is a custodian through whom party activities should be carried out in a given province.

“The money belongs to the province. And the money is to be used for party activities.”
