Conservancy have hailed Zanu-PF Politburo’s decision to appoint a committee to look into issues affecting their operations.
In a statement yesterday, Save Valley Conservancy chairman Mr Basil Nyabadza said the Politburo decision was good news for wildlife management in Zimbabwe.
The Politburo on Wednesday set up a committee that would look at the best way to resolve issues at the conservancy.
The committee is made up of Ministers Ignatius Chombo (Local Government, Rural and Urban Development), Herbert Murerwa (Lands, Land Reforms and Resettlement) Francis Nhema (Environment and Natural Resources Management) and Walter Mzembi (Tourism and Hospitality Industry).
Mr Nyabadza expressed hope that the committee would come up with resolutions that are best for Zimbabwe’s wildlife management. “We welcome the party’s statement and we believe this is good for wildlife management in Zimbabwe.
“We share the view that the committee will give the best solution for the future of the animals and our children.” He, however, expressed hope that the outcome would embrace the requirements stipulated by Government.
“A broad-based empowerment programme is good for the future of our country.”
Mr Nyabadza said the conservancy had three issues that should be considered by the committee.
“The committee should take cognisance of the political, economic and social implications of their decision on the conservancy.
“Unless these are addressed, the future of the conservancy is under threat.
“We regard the conservancy as a national heritage for us and the world, just like the Victoria Falls. We would want it to be preserved for tourism growth in Zimbabwe,” Mr Nyabadza said.
A group of indigenous recipients was recently issued with hunting permits and quotas to engage interested hunters in the conservancy. The move, however, raised a storm that sucked in Cabinet ministers.
