They also congratulated him for assuming the SADC chairmanship in August this year.

The staff members, led by the party’s Director General, Brigadier-General (Rtd) Ezekiel Zabanyana, congratulated President Mnangagwa, who is also the party’s First Secretary, during the Politburo meeting at Zanu PF headquarters.

President Mnangagwa, who celebrated his birthday on September 15, was given a bouquet of flowers.

Responding to the congratulatory message, President Mnangagwa thanked the staff members for remembering his birthday.

“May I thank you individually and collectively for this honour as I celebrated my 82nd birthday. I didn’t expect this pleasant surprise,” he said.

President Mnangagwa praised God for the gift of a long life.

“Honestly let me assure you that it’s God’s will that a person attains this age. It is never the will of an individual or the wisdom of an individual, it is the grace of God that one reaches whatever age.

“I am also grateful that the Lord has permitted me to reach that age. I hope that many of you also will score the same number. I am grateful that I have been given that opportunity to be alive to the age of 82,” he said.
