MINSITER of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Honourable Nokuthula Matsikenyere, has called on the corporate world to extend a helping hand to the needy and less fortunate.
This follows the rescuing of a 53-year-old Mutare man, Mr Gift Nemaramba, who was born with disability, by ZB Bank when the financial institution donated a wheelchair to him on Monday.
Mr Nemaramba’s family used to ferry him in a borrowed wheelbarrow.
Minister Matsikenyere said people and the corporate world should assist people living with disabilities to complement Government’s efforts.
“This noble gesture complements Government’s efforts of improving the welfare of people living with disabilities, and the corporate as well as the civic world should emulate this,” said Minister Matsikenyere.
ZB Mutare branch manager, Mr Casnos Kundishora handed over the brand new wheelchair to Mr Nemaramba.
In an interview, Mr Kundishora said the gesture is part of their corporate social responsibility.
“Disability is not inability and as the corporate world, we should take it as our duty to help the less fortunate. Funds permitting, we hope to extend our hand to many people as it is evident that there is a big need for wheelchairs in the country,” he said.
Mr Nemaramba thanked Minister Matsikenyere for sourcing the donation from ZB Financial Holdings after his family approached her for help.
He also thanked her for the open door policy at her offices.
He further expressed gratitude to the financial institution for the gesture, stating that he can now find means to support his family.
“I was born like this, but the disability was only realised later as I could not stand on my feet. Instead, I could only stand on my toes. I was not taken to the hospital because my parents were poor, so I grew up walking on my toes.
“However, as I grew older, it became painful to walk on my toes. My family was left with no option, but to ferry me in the wheelchair. I want to thank Minister Matsikenyere for sourcing the donation from ZB Financial Holdings. I also want to thank ZB Bank for the wheelchair donation,” said Mr Nemaramba.
