The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has established 139 registration and voters’ roll inspection centres for the Mt Darwin and Chirumanzu-Zibagwe by-elections slated for March 27.This comes as the Registrar General’s Office has started conducting a national identity and death registration exercise in the two constituencies to enable prospective voters to acquire documents for voter registration.

“It is hereby notified for general information that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has established a total of 139 registration and voters’ roll inspection centres for the second phase of the outreach exercise, he said.

“The outreach exercise is for a period of eight days from 3rd February, 2015 to 10th February, 2015. The centres will open between 0700hrs to 1700hrs daily during the 8-day period.”

Silaigwana said documents required for registration included a national identity card or a valid Zimbabwean passport and proof of residence.

A national identity card or valid passport is also required for the inspection process.

A total of 83 registration centres and three mobile registration teams were established in Chirumanzu-Zibagwe constituency while Mt Darwin got 49 centres.

Ward 15 of Chinhoyi Municipality will be carrying out its council by-election on the same date.

The Registrar General’s Office set up its centres and mobile teams in the constituencies and started issuing identity cards yesterday, with the exercise expected to be completed on Monday next week.
