A MAN held on theft charges has been found hanged in a prison cell.
The body of Noel Mawutho, who was due to appear before a Tsholotsho magistrate yesterday charged with stealing groceries and cash from several shops, was found on Tuesday night.

He had allegedly hanged himself from the roof of his cell using his trousers.

Mawutho was arrested on Monday while trying to take some of his loot, which included a bicycle, to Bulawayo.

A police source said: “Mawutho was known to many as a transport operator. He had a truck that he used to ferry people and goods from Tsholotsho to neighbouring areas. It was later discovered that he was a serial thief who had been stealing groceries and money from shops at the Tsholotsho Business Centre.

“He would do his work during the day and then go on a looting spree at night. He stole from several shops before he was finally arrested.”
