FOLLOWING a huge turnout at Rufaro Stadium for the Young Warriors’ Confederation of African Football Under-23 Championship qualifier against South Africa, ZIFA have expressed gratitude to the supporters and all parties whose input ensured the successful staging of the match.
In a statement to the association’s official website, www.zifa.org.zw, ZIFA communications manager Xolisani Gwesela underscored the importance of the supporters in urging the team to earn a draw.
“We are humbled by the multitude of football supporters who responded to our call for support by coming to Rufaro in their large numbers to back the Young Warriors.
“Football is a team sport where supporters as the other important player have to do their bit so that at the end of the day the nation will celebrate,” he said.
The association also extended appreciation to several partners whose invaluable input will always be cherished.
“We are indebted to the Premier Soccer League, Tanganda Private Limited and Herentals College for their unwavering support to the association in these challenging times.
“In that vein, we appeal to every Zimbabwean to aspire to partner the winning team by providing services required for national teams’ welfare,” Gwesela added.
Zimbabwe’s Under-23 forced a 1-1 draw with South Africa through a late Walter Musona penalty after going down to a Keegan Dolly strike in the 66th minute.
The second leg of the CAF Under-23 Championship qualifier will be played in South Africa on 2 August and the winner will qualify for the continental finals set for Senegal in November. — zifa.org
