Razza Butt as they step up preparations for this month’s commitments against touring A sides from South Africa and Australia.
Razza has expressed his willingness to play for his adopted home Zimbabwe after settling in the country with his family a few years ago.
But his inclusion in the national time may have to wait a little longer as he has been waiting for the Immigration Department to regularise his change of citizenship.
The squad also includes new faces like Lovemore Manatsa, Maxwell Chifamba Brian Vitori and Tochi Enwerem who represented the country at Under-19 level last year.
There is also a legion of more young players like Tendai Chatara, Natsaui Mushangwe, Shingi Masakadza and Kyle Jarvis who had been sidelined by injury for the better part of last season.
Regulars like captain Elton Chigumbura, Brendan Taylor, Ray Price, Tatenda Taibu and Graeme Cremer have also been included.
“It’s an enlarged squad which includes experienced players, youngsters and those coming from injury like Kyle Jarvis.
“A total of 32 players have been picked by the selectors and everyone is being monitored and will be given a perfect opportunity to prove themselves.
“But this is just a training squad and we will have four-day matches at the end.
“Only those who impress and prove that they are worthy, will be selected into the final squad,” said assistant coach Steve Mangongo.
The Zimbabwean 2011/12 international and domestic cricket season will commence on the 26th of June with the arrival of the Australian and South African ‘A’ teams.
Zimbabwe are set to host the two sides in a triangular series from June 29 to July 6 and then engage the Australians in two four-day games afterwards.
Meanwhile, the Guardian reports that Monty Panesar took five wickets for Sussex but Gary Ballance helped Yorkshire hang on for a draw at Hove.
Gary Ballance produced a defiant innings to ensure Yorkshire avoided a fifth defeat in seven championship matches. The 21-year-old from Zimbabwe batted for almost four hours to frustrate Sussex’s push for a third consecutive home win – facing 207 balls for his unbeaten 73, his best innings for Yorkshire.
He had featured in significant stands with Jonathan Bairstow and Adil Rashid as Monty Panesar took his first five-wicket haul of the season to keep Sussex’s hopes alive, but the teams shook hands with 21 balls left and Yorkshire ahead by 39 runs.
Balance played a central role for Mid-West Rhinos in the Zimbabwe domestic franchise season where he finished as one of the top scorer’s in the first class Logan Cup competition.
Yorkshire had begun the day needing 246 to make Sussex bat again, with eight wickets in hand.
It looked a tall order, given the way they had batted on the previous day, but with the wicket holding together well it was by no means beyond them.
They lunched with the score 118 for four.
Ballance has made 50s in his past three Championship matches but this was by far the most important.
