Zimbabwe’s representative to World Miss Universities, Siboninkosi Hove, restored confidence in local models’ participation at international pageants when she was crowned first princess of the beauty contest held over the weekend in Seoul, South Korea.There were 39 beauty queens from different parts of the world who were vying for the crown.
The crown was taken by Karina Stephanie Martin Jiménez from Mexico who became World Miss Universities 2014.
The second runner-up was from Brazil while Ukraine took Miss Talent crown.
Hove could not hide her joy and surprise for winning such a world contest.
“I am more than excited for making my nation proud and l give praise to God.
“I also want to thank all Zimbabweans that voted for me via YouTube and for all their support and prayers.
“I am so grateful,” she said.
For winning the crown the 21-year-old model walked away with an academic scholarship worth one million Yuan (US$165 300) and was chosen to be Hwacheon City’s ambassador in Africa.
The Africa University student took the task of representing the country after the reigning queen Valerie Chingonzo and First princess Simbiso Mutandavari got tied up in examinations during the pageant’s preparatory period.
Mia Hasanagic from Denmark won the last edition of the pageant in 2012.
World Miss University seeks to promote World Peace under the objectives of the Peace Movement for the World’s Unification and the pageant is held annually in South Korea.
