Zim sports fest Down Under

Easter Holiday for the past five years.
The competition is called ZIMPRIDE.
New Zealand also joins the party this Easter.
The two major attractions are football and basketball.
Other sporting activities will be netball, tug-of-war, tennis, snooker, athletics and volleyball.
This year the competition is in Sydney, New South Wales, and the organisers are a group called Zambezi Warriors Sports Club, a Sydney-based Sports Association.
It is the first time New Zealand-based Zimbabweans will be taking part.
The festival takes place on Saturday and Sunday at Merrylands Park Regional Sporting Centre.
ZIMPRIDE Sydney 2011 is set to be a great event as hundreds of Zimbabweans have indicated they will attend.
Football will be the major attraction and hogging the limelight would be bitter rivals, Zimvic FC from Melbourne and Zambezi Warriors from Sydney.
Their matches are always riveting.
Other teams like Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra, New Zealand, Penrith and St Mary’s are also in contention for the honours.
According to the Chairman of ZIMPRIDE Sydney 2011 Bernard Nzombe Muchemwa, a former University of Zimbabwe football team, the gathering is vital for the Zimbabwean community in the Pacific.
“The idea fosters the spirit of oneness among Zimbabweans in the Tasman and provides a vehicle for social interaction, maintain good physical and mental health and networking among Zimbabweans and other Communities,” he said.
“For the youth, it’s time to showcase and nurture their budding talents. This event is normally graced by high ranking dignitaries including the Zimbabwe Embassy.”
He added that, ZIMPRIDE is a day to celebrate being Zimbabwean.
Zimvic FC are the current football champions while the Zambezi Warriors will be relying on the home advantage to turn the tables.
The ZIMPRIDE Easter Sporting competition always doubles up with celebrations for Zimbabwe’s Independence Day, mostly in a belated fashion like this year.
