ZIMBABWE Under-19 women’s Table Tennis national team on Wednesday clinched a bronze medal at the ongoing ITTF Africa Youth Championships in Gaborone, Botswana.
The Zimbabwe U-19 women’s team coached by Vimbai Makuvaza finished third behind Egypt and South Africa, who scooped gold and silver respectively.
Zimbabwe team manager Fungai Zinatsa was thrilled with the achievement of the junior national which was making its debut appearance at the ITTF Africa Youth Championships.
“We are thrilled with the achievement of our under-19 women’s Table Tennis team.
They have demonstrated the depth of talent and the bright future of our sport in Zimbabwe.
“This bronze medal is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and commitment of the players and the coaching staff,” said Zinatsa.
Zimbabwe was represented by the quartet of Naama Boterere, Kuzivakwashe Chidhakwa, Charuma Ruvarashe, and Precious Chimbetete, who fought hard to secure a podium finish.
The Zimbabwe U-19 women’s team captain Boterere described the podium finish as a welcome achievement, expressing gratitude to their technical team.
“Winning a bronze medal is a dream come true for us.
“We are grateful for the support and guidance of our coaches and the Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union, and we are determined to continue to improve and bring more success to our country,” said Boterere.
Noah Ferenando, the President of the Zimbabwe Table Tennis Union saluted the ladies for lifting the Zimbabwe flag at the championships.
“We are immensely proud of our under-19 women’s Table Tennis team for their outstanding performance at the ITTF Africa Youth Championships.
“This bronze medal is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players, coaches, and the entire Table Tennis community in Zimbabwe.
We will continue to support and invest in the development of our young athletes, as they are the future of our sport,” said Ferenando.
