ZIM YOUNG DRUMMERS MAKE MAJOR MOVES

Viola Mzungwana
SOUTH Africa boasts of having the youngest DJ in the region but right here in Zimbabwe, two young drummers are making major moves.

Six -year- old Sifiso Ndlovu and his brother Sibusiso Ndlovu (9)A are the star attraction of Drums of Peace a group founded by their father Lewis Ndlovu in 2009 (ABOVE).

The kids now in grade zero and three respectively have to get used to celebrity status. Just like Micheal Jackson who was the darling of The Jackson 5 as a child and even Beyonce as that skinny young girl from the childhood group Destinyas Child, all eyes are on them.

At their last show at the Amagugu Traditional Foods and Beverages expo in Matopo the audience could not get their eyes off the child stars.

Having got clearance from their guardian, who is their father, this reporter interviewed them.

a?I love the drums and whenever daddy performs without is, I ask for a video clip of the performance,a? said a cool Sibusiso.

Drumming is a skill and the most important part of it is keeping onceas hands up for it. What of the tender age kids, donat they feel pain?

a?Not at all,a? said Sibusiso. a?After we do our homework we beat our drums for fun. We love it,a? he added.

The younger one, Sifiso whose cute face is a marvel to watch when he gives rhythm to the beat, says practice makes perfect.

a?We practice during weekends when there are no shows but if there are shows we are out there showing off,a? he said.

Of the two youngsters, their father said Sibusiso showed early interest in the craft.

a?SibusisoA showed interest at an early stage and I was forced to make a drum for him. At barely four years of age he started performing with us and has never looked back,a? said Ndlovu.

But it is Sifiso who grasps concepts faster.

a?The younger one grasps concepts faster. I remember he used to cry for his brother when going to pre school whenA he was just a year and nine months. We ended up enrolling him to school too,a? he added.

Drums of Peace is a lucrative enterprise. The group is fresh from a tour of Dubai and Lewis wishes that one day one of his children would carry on the legacy.
