THE national baseball team, including Mutare-based player Raymond Tomei, is determined to travel to Lesotho by road on a shoestring budget to participate in the Southern Africa Senior Championships in Maseru this weekend.
A lot is at stake for the team in the indoor version of baseball, as winning the Lesotho contest will secure their qualification for the Africa Championships, and subsequently the Africa qualifiers.
If successful, the team will proceed to the World Cup qualifiers.
Administrator of the Zimbabwe Baseball Association and acting marketing and fundraising manager, Kudzionera Madhodha said: “I am reaching out to humbly seek your assistance for our captain, Raymond Tomei, a talented young man from Mutare. This comes at a time when he is preparing to represent our team in the upcoming Southern Africa Senior Championships in Lesotho. Due to unforeseen circumstances, our team has had to self-fund the trip, and we are facing a financial shortfall.
“We have made a deliberate decision to let the players and members of the association source funding instead of cancelling our participation. We are currently short of finances to cover essential expenses for Raymond’s travel, as well as that of other players.
“Your contribution would greatly alleviate the burden on our team and ensure a successful trip. We are grateful for any amount you can provide, and your support would bring us one step closer to achieving our goals.”
