THE visiting United Nations delegation of Permanent Representatives was moved by the country’s hospitality, epitomized by the empowerment programmes for close to 12 000 refugees and asylum seekers at Tongogara Refugee Settlement.
The eight-member UN delegation is in the country for a five-day visit that took them to Tongogara Refugee Settlement and Green Fuel ethanol production plant in Chipinge today.
In order to operationalise the realisation of Global Compact on Refugees adopted in 2018, the Government of Zimbabwe submitted pledges at 2023 Global Refugee Forum.
Part of the pledges include enhancing self-reliance for refugees, asylum seekers and host communities by 2027 as well as strengthing the inclusion of refugees, asylum seekers and host communities in sport and cultural programmes by 2027.
They also include promoting and increasing access to tertiary education for refugees, asylum seekers and host community by establishing a technical / vocational training centre with an innovation hub and blended learning programmes by 2027.
