The Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) in collaboration with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN ESARO) and the SADC TFCA Financing Facility conducted a training programme for 64 rangers at the Zimbabwe Institute of Wildlife Conservation.

The programme seek to raise awareness about the importance of human rights in conservation of nature. ZimParks spokesperson Mr Tinashe Farawo said the training also aimed to provide guidance on the responsible usage of force and firearms when interacting with suspects and crowds.

Mr Farawo said they are committed to not only protecting wildlife but also to ensuring that the dignity and rights of local communities are respected.

“This initiative is part of a larger project supported by the SADC TFCA Financing Facility, which aims to strengthen biodiversity conservation and socio-economic development across the region,” he said.

“Particular attention was given to four important Transfrontier Conservation Areas (TFCAs) – KAZA, Chimanimani, GMTFCA, and Lower Zambezi-Mana Pools.”

The collaboration between ZimParks, IUCN ESARO, and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, facilitated through the KfW Development Bank, highlights a strong commitment to creating impactful and sustainable conservation practices throughout the SADC region.
