THE Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT) has urged Government ministries, departments and agencies to strengthen data-sharing practices to enhance the production of official statistics and support evidence-based decision-making.
Officially opening the Statistical Data and Metadata Exchange (SDMX) and Open Data Platform capacity-building workshop in the city today, ZIMSTAT Director-General Mrs Tafadzwa Bandama said effective data sharing was critical to the country’s statistical development and modernisation efforts.
She said the SDMX framework provides a standardised approach to exchanging statistical data and metadata, enabling institutions to share information more efficiently while improving the quality, consistency and accessibility of official statistics.
“SDMX is a global initiative designed to standardise and streamline the exchange of statistical data and metadata among organisations. It provides a common language and structure for sharing data efficiently and effectively,” said Mrs Bandama.
She added that improved collaboration and data sharing among institutions would strengthen Zimbabwe’s national statistical system and enhance the availability of reliable data for planning, policy formulation and monitoring development programmes.
