THE Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency is pushing for adaptation of modern data standards and digital platforms with a view to improve statistical production, sharing and evidence-based decision-making.
Addressing a capacity-building workshop in Mutare on Statistical Data and Metadata eXchange and the Open Data Portal 2.0, ZIMSTAT Director for Statistical Services, Mrs Fadzayi Ndlovu said SDMX is a global framework that standardises and streamlines the exchange of statistical data and metadata between national and international institutions.
Widely applied in economics, agriculture, social statistics and finance, the system improves harmonised reporting and data comparability, she said.

“By adopting SDMX, agencies can harmonise metadata, automate reporting processes and provide near real-time access to official statistics that support evidence-based decision-making,” said Mrs Ndlovu.
The workshop equips participants with practical skills in SDMX data modelling, including structuring and managing statistical datasets. It also features an end-to-end demonstration of data collection, management, dissemination and automated reporting within ODP 2.0.A key focus is migrating from ODP 1.0 to ODP 2.0, a move ZIMSTAT says will strengthen interoperability, accessibility and automation of statistical systems.
Mrs Ndlovu said expected outcomes include finalised SDMX data models, stronger technical capacity among participants, and a structured roadmap for migrating to ODP 2.0.
The upgrade is projected to enhance data sharing and improve the overall efficiency of national statistical systems.
