ZimTrade, UN to host vendor seminar

ZIMTRADE in conjunction with the United Nations Procurement Division is working towards finding ways in which local companies can benefit from supplying goods to departments within the United Nations system.

The two organisations are expected to host a vendor briefing and registration seminar in Harare and Bulawayo respectively in September this year to address the issues.

The workshop is a follow up to a seminar that was held in Harare in 2012.

“The seminar will assist Zimbabwean companies with potential to supply to the UN system, to register on the UN Vendor Roster.

“Furthermore, business opportunities that exist within the global humanitarian market will be shared with the participants,” said ZimTrade in a statement.

In 2014, the United Nations procured goods and services worth $3,2 billion and this presents a huge opportunity for local companies.

“Participation by developing countries in United Nation tenders is minimal due to lack of exposure on how the system operates.

“According to the UNPD, only 16 Zimbabwean companies are currently registered under the system so there is a need of registering more companies,” said ZimTrade.

The seminar, which is in line with the implementation of the economic policy blue print, Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation 2013–2018, will spur current focus of developing and promoting valued added manufactures.

“The goods and services may include air transportation services; chemical and petroleum products; food rations and catering; prefabricated buildings; motor vehicles, parts and transportation equipment; electronic data,” said ZimTrade.

Other services include, processing equipment and maintenance; telecommunications equipment and services; architecture, engineering and construction services; freight forwarding and delivery; air conditioning, heating and plumbing; building management and maintenance; security and safety equipment and services.

ZimTrade facilitates the marketing of Zimbabwean products and services to the global market and also facilitates the participation of local companies.
