Zinwa scoops continental monitoring award

for Africa, for its efforts in water monitoring activities.
The awards, which seek to recognise individuals and organisations that would have excelled in water monitoring efforts in their countries and continents, are given in honour of the United Nations World Water Monitoring Day. In a statement commemorating the World Water Day, Zinwa said this year’s commemorations were centered on honouring outstanding efforts of eight organisations and three individual participants for the 2010 outreach.
“The Water Champion awards recognise superior levels of relevance, educational effort, support and innovation in the promotion of water quality through involvement in WWMD.
For Africa, Zinwa and Mr Neakoh Mengyi from Kenya won the awards.
“Zinwa in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, Sport, Arts and Culture went beyond simply giving local schools tasks; they went out to review the progress.
“The company enabled pupils and teachers to monitor river sources and encouraged future participation from students through recognition and WWMD incentives,” said Zinwa.
Mr Mengyi was honoured for his efforts in water monitoring in Kenya and Cameroon. Zinwa public relations manager, Mrs Marjorie Munyonga said her company was proud to win the prestigious award.
“We are more than proud that we have managed to put Zimbabwe on the world map on water issues. It is not an honour bestowed on Zinwa alone but on the country as well. We will intensify our efforts so that we remain on the world map and continue to lead the pack,” Mrs Munyonga said.
