Zoey to tone down

Zoey is billed to perform at three venues — Hustlers Leisure Centre on Friday, Jabula Inn in Esigodini on Saturday and the Basement Nightclub on Sunday.

The move by the dancer to put a lid on some of her on-stage antics comes in the aftermath of her questioning, together with rival dancer Bev, by police in Harare over some of their dance moves which some argue border on pornography.

In an interview yesterday, Zoey confirmed the three shows, while also highlighting the fact that she will be modifying her act in order to stay within the parameters of decency.

“Yes I can confirm that I will be at Hustlers on Friday, Jabula Inn on Saturday and Basement on Sunday. However although I do not plan any major changes to my act there will be limits to what is done on stage in my latest shows,” she said.

Zoey said she will be restricting some of the wild scenes seen at her shows by minimising crowd involvement in her act.

“This show will be different from the previous ones because this time we will not be involving the crowd as much. The crowd will have to keep its distance from the performance because that is one thing that has caused trouble for me,” she said.

Speaking on her arrest she said it was not as serious as people were made to believe as the police had only wanted to know the details of her act. She promised fireworks at her latest show saying she would showcase  better and improved dances.

“The questioning that I got from the police was not as serious as people were led to believe. The police merely wanted details about my shows. For these coming shows people should expect surprises as I will be coming up with new and improved dances that they have not witnessed before,” said Zoey

Entertainment manager at Hustlers, Simon Gama, said the club had re-enforced security ahead of today’s show in order to maintain order. He added that all cameras, except those carried by media personnel, would be banned from use within the venue.

“We have tightened security and no one will interfere with Zoey’s performance. In addition to that, cameras will also not be allowed as they have been the cause of most disagreements in shows in the past,” he said.

Gama said people should not be worried about any possible changes to Zoey’s act as she had now been cleared by the authorities and had held successful performances after her “ordeal” with the law.

“Zoey has been cleared and she has done performances after her arrest and there have been no complaints from people who watched her,” he said.

Gama said as was the tradition with Hustlers Leisure Centre, they had lined up great entertainment menu in the run up to the festive season with performances by Sulumani Chembetu and Jah Prayzah on the cards. He added that a face off between Zoey and Bev was in the pipeline for December.
