ZVIMBA Rural District Council has issued a blanket enforcement order directing occupiers of SME workspaces in several areas to stop operations, demolish structures and restore the land to its original condition.
The order, issued under Section 32 of the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act (Chapter 29:12), targets SME workspaces in Granary, Fairview, Nyabira, Haydon, Sandton, Whitecliff, Whitehouse, Mount Hampden, Raffingora, Glen View 1 Extension, Glen View, Rainham, Spitzkop, Rydale Ridge and Kintyre.
According to the notice, the council had observed that development in the affected areas was being undertaken “in contravention of the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act Chapter 29:12”, particularly the “erection and operation of structures or buildings without development permits”.
The council has ordered all affected occupants to discontinue use of the land, demolish the structures, and restore the land to its original condition before the development.
The order comes into operation 30 days from the date of publication of the notice, although affected persons have been given an opportunity to appeal.
It states that an appeal lodged within one month would suspend its operation until the appeal is determined or withdrawn.
The council also warned that it could issue prohibition orders before the enforcement order becomes operational to stop the continuation of activities covered by the order.
