20-year prison sentence for axe murderer from Gwelutshena

A 23-YEAR-OLD man from Gwelutshena has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for killing a 39-year-old man in a brutal axe attack at a bar in Inyathi.
Mtabisi Ndimande, from Macala village, Chief Sikhobokhobo, Gwelutshena, Nkayi, appeared at the High Court of Zimbabwe in Hwange, facing a murder charge.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), on 5 August 2024, around 10:30 PM, Ndimande and the deceased were drinking beer at DZ Sports Bar, Turkmine Business Centre, Inyathi, along with other patrons. An argument ensued between the two men over an undisclosed issue.
Without warning, Ndimande pulled an axe from his waist and struck the deceased once on the head, causing the deceased to collapse, while the axe remained embedded in his head.
Ndimande removed the axe and walked away.
The deceased bled profusely and was taken to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on August 6, 2024.
The police responded to the scene and recovered the axe, leading to Ndimande’s arrest.
