200 regional dignitaries set for Harare historic conference

Lions Club International will hold a historic conference in Zimbabwe which will see over 200 Lions from Botswana, Malawi and Mozambique for a transformative weekend of service, leadership, and unity.

The Lions Club International Multiple District 412 Convention, will run from Friday to Saturday, 3 May 2025 at Rainbow Towers Hotel, Harare.

Lions Club International Foundation, which has availed grants following natural disasters like Cyclone Idai in Zimbabwe and the recent floods in Botswana, will be represented at the convention Catherine Celemine from the United States of America.

First vice district governor and convention vice chairperson Lion Bothwell Nyajeka said this convention will advance efforts by Lions Clubs International across global causes including youth empowerment, vision, hunger relief, and disaster preparedness.

“This year’s convention will bring together over 200 Lions and Leos from Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe.

“We are thrilled to share that we will be celebrating impactful Lions projects in youth empowerment, hunger relief, vision care, and environmental sustainability.

“Our leadership development sessions are focused on empowering club officers and youth leaders.

“This convention is more than just a gathering it is a celebration of service, leadership, and the unwavering spirit of Lionism.

“This convention is an opportunity to reconnect, to forge new friendships, to learn, and to reignite our passion for service,” he said.

The event will be attended by guest of honour Lions Clubs International, International Director for Africa Princess Bridget Adepoche Tychus from Nigeria.

The Council Chair for Multiple District 412, Lion Frances Palmer from Botswana will also be in attendance.

“This convention is a celebration of the unwavering spirit of service that defines us as Lions.

“ It is a time to come together, not only to reflect on our shared achievements but also to renew our commitment to making a lasting difference in the communities we serve.

“Each year, we gather to strengthen our bonds, exchange ideas, and inspire one another, knowing that our collective efforts have the power to transform lives.

“As the hosting Country, we are proud to facilitate this gathering of passionate individuals who have dedicated themselves to the mission of Lionism.

“Whether you are a first-time attendee or a seasoned convention-goer, we hope this event provides you with valuable insights, meaningful connections, and a renewed sense of purpose,” said lion Mutsawashe Chipfumbu, President of Harare The Soverigns Lions Club, who are the hosting club.
