China, Japan plan direct currency exchange agreement

China and Japan have unveiled plans to promote direct exchange of their currencies in a bid to cut costs for companies and boost bilateral trade.
The deal will allow firms to convert the Chinese and Japanese currencies directly into each other.

Samsung Electronics has agreed to buy out Sony’s entire stake in their liquid crystal display (LCD) joint venture.
The Korean electronics maker said it will pay Sony $939 million in cash for its stake.

Boxers urged to take medical examinations

PROFESSIONAL boxers have been urged to take their medical examinations as there are a number of tournaments, both local and international, lined up for next year.
The Zimbabwe Boxing and Wrestling Control Board secretary Patrick Mukondiwa said there were a number of inquiries through the association about some boxers.
“We have had a number of international promoters inquiring about some of our local boxers. We urge the boxers to go for their medical examinations so that they are cleared and are able to take part in the tournaments,” he said.

Club treasurer Webster Chikengezha yesterday said the players and the executive will meet later this week to discuss the figures and how the money is to be paid to ease tension between the two parties over the issue.
“The team did well in the just-ended season and the executive has met and decided that we need to thank our players for their fighting spirit,” said Chikengezha.

Dimitar Berbatov hit a hat-trick as Manchester United drew level on points with Manchester City at the top of the Premier League with an emphatic 5-0 victory over 10-man Wigan at Old Trafford yesterday.
Sir Alex Ferguson’s side are now behind arch rivals City, who were held to a draw at West Bromwich Albion, only on goal difference thanks to their second 5-0 win in the space of a week.
