African and Arab guides; higher technology and the use of anti-slavery and Christian missionary movements aided the West’s penetration into the region. China has recorded its presence on Africa’s social, political and economic horizons. Will Africa play China against the West?

Ex-SA police chief Selebi starts jail term

Johannesburg — Former police chief and ex-president of Interpol Jackie Selebi yesterday left hospital to begin his 15-year jail sentence for corruption, the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) confirmed.
“I have been told that Selebi reported to Pretoria Central Prison accompanied by his lawyers and the investigating officer,” NPA spokesperson Mthunzi Mhaga told AFP. Selebi arrived in prison in an ambulance.
