Five hundred and five people were injured in 799 accidents recorded countrywide.

ONLY 247 000 hectares of maize have so far been planted this year compared to the 379 993 ha that were planted during the same period last year.
Agritex’s latest crop report attributes the decline to the late onset of rains countrywide.
Mashonaland East is leading with 72 591ha having been planted to date, compared to 87 157ha planted in the same period last year.
Mashonaland Central has planted 17 116ha and Mashonaland West 29 628ha, compared to 60 404ha.
In Mashonaland West, planting had been suspended in some districts like Makonde due to a dry spell.

TWENTY-FOUR people were killed in road traffic accidents on Christmas and Boxing days, bringing the holiday death toll to 72 as of yesterday afternoon.
Five hundred and five people were injured in 799 accidents recorded countrywide.
A total of 98 people died over the entire festive period last year.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Andrew Phiri said 1 777 unroadworthy vehicles were impounded in a blitz that seeks to reduce carnage, while 64 966 tickets were issued for various traffic offences.
