Zim makes giant strides in eradicating malaria

ZIMBABWE has made giant strides in the eradication of malaria in most districts except for areas along the borders, a senior health official has said.
The focal person for Malaria Case Management in the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare, Dr Stanford Mashaire, attributed the eradication of malaria to prevention and treatment interventions.
Dr Mashaire revealed this at a media briefing on the Global Fund to Fight HIV and Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria Programmes in Harare yesterday.
Districts that have eliminated malaria are Matabeleland South, Masvingo, Midlands and some parts of Mashonaland East.
Trilateral tourism deal sealed

ZIMBABWE, Zambia and the United Nations World Tourism Organisation signed a Trilateral Host Agreement in Victoria Falls yesterday, marking the official countdown to the 20th UNWTO Session of the General Assembly slated for August next year.
Victoria Falls and Livingstone will co-host the historic event that comes to Southern Africa for the first time.
This becomes the second time Africa hosts the event after Senegal did so at its inauguration.
Zimbabwe and Zambia won the right to co-host the meeting at a meeting held in Spain last year.
UNWTO secretary-general Dr Talib Rifai arrived in Victoria Falls on Monday afternoon before leading a variety of activities between Zimbabwe and Zambia.
The event went a gear up when President Mugabe arrived in Victoria Falls while his Zambian counterpartPresident Michael Sata arrived in Livingstone from their respective capitals.
President Mugabe arrived at Victoria Falls International Airport to a thunderous reception from flag-waving, singing and feet stamping residents who braved the hot weather to welcome him.
