Highlights of Sadc summit in Maputo

The 32nd Session of the Summit of the Heads of State and Government of Sadc was held in Maputo, Republic of Mozambique, on 17 and 18 August 2012. President Mugabe joined 13 other Heads of State and Government at the summit. The meeting, among other matters, welcomed progress in the implementation of the GPA in Zimbabwe and called for the unconditional lifting of illegal Western sanctions. It commended general peace in the region, but expressed concern over continuing instability in eastern DRC and Madagascar. Summit blamed Rwanda for sponsoring and supporting rebels in DRC. We publish excerpts of the Sadc communiqué below:
