Poultry feed shortages hit city
Business Reporter
BULAWAYO has been hit by a shortage of poultry feed as demand outstrips supply.
An official of a retail outlet for stock feeds said the demand for poultry feed exceeded what the manufacturers were providing.
“As the festive season approaches, chicken sales increase, creating high demand for poultry feed in the market. Suppliers of poultry feed are no longer consistent and this has affected our business operations,” he said.New border post for Zim, Bots on the cards
Gwanda Correspondent
ZIMBABWE and Botswana have agreed to open a new border post in the southern part of Gwanda District next year, a development that is expected to ease congestion at Plumtree Border Post.
The new border post will be at Mlambapeli crossing point along Shashe River.
The agreement came out in a meeting of the two countries’ ministers of home affairs held at Mmamabaka Border Post which is the Botswana side of the Mlambapeli Border Post.
The meeting held on Wednesday was between Zimbabwe’s Home Affairs Co-Minister Cde Kembo Mohadi, and the Botswana Minister of Labour and Home Affairs Edwin Batshu.
The project to set up the border post has been on the drawing board for some years.
Mlambapeli Border Post would be the fourth after the commissioning of Mphoengs and Maitengwe which were also opened to reduce congestion at Plumtree.
Let’s act and fight against cases of child abuse
Weekend reports that Zimbabwe is losing the fight to curb the prevalence of child abuse should jolt the nation into action and reverse this worrying trend. Our sister paper Sunday News, quoting the 2012 preliminary findings by the Zimbabwe National Statistical Agency (Zimstat) and the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef), reported yesterday that one in three girls is raped or sexually assaulted before she turns 18 while more than 60 percent of boys endure extreme physical punishment and abuse.

SHABANIE Mine were held by a determined Buffaloes in a Castle Lager Premiership match played at Barbourfields Stadium.
Buffaloes woke up from the dead after the hosts had taken a 2-0 lead but two costly mistakes by the asbestos miners’ defenders gifted the soldiers with two goals that saw them sharing the spoils.
Buffaloes coach Saul Chaminuka had earlier declared that he would beat the miners 2-1 in their own backyard but he however went home smiling.
Shabanie defenders should shoulder the blame for the share of spoils.
Shabanie Mine opened the scoring through their former player Farai Musunye.
Erea Phiri marked his return from injury with a good game in which his passing was great. It was from one of his passes that he released Raymond Sibanda on the right. The striker who has been given a new role on the leftback sent an inviting cross from the left and the alert Mususunye’s flashing header beat goalkeeper Tapiwa Mafunga in the 38th minute.
Shabanie started the match on a very high note but many a time they failed to utilise the numerous chances that came their way.
Shabanie who were firing from all cylinders got another chance in the 41st minute. A short corner kick by Phillip Sithole saw Phiri sending a cross into the box but Kanda again headed wide with only Mafunga to beat and the Buffaloes defence ball watching.
Super substitute Tarisai Rukanda was denied a goal in the 60th minute when he left his marker for dead on the right and released a screamer that Mafunga blocked for a corner but the hosts failed to utilise it.
Muchineripi Wayerera handled in the box under pressure from Tarisai Rukanda in the 60th minute and Gwanda referee Nkosana Nduna who had a brilliant afternoon rightfully pointed to the spot. Maziwisa took the responsibility and sent Mafunga the wrong way as he scored his 16th goal of the season.
Maziwisa sent Kanda through in the 72nd minute but the striker’s effort outside the box went wide with the soldiers defence nowhere in sight and Shabanie were to pay dearly for the miss.

Tsvangirai’s campaign off to bad start
Masvingo Correspondent
MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s campaign for people to support the Copac draft constitution ahead of the Second All-Stakeholders conference suffered a blow here on Friday when he was openly told by his supporters that the party is now unpopular in the province.
The MDC-T supporters, predominantly women, cited Mr Tsvangirai’s arrogance and that of the MDC-T-led Masvingo council as the things that have tarnished the image of the party in the province and its national leadership.
According to the supporters, council was being indifferent when it comes to attending to workers’ grievances.
A woman from Rujeko, who also works as a general hand, had no kind words for the mayor and the whole MDC-T leadership in Masvingo, adding that PM Tsvangirai was no longer welcome in the province because of his blunders.
Council to slash crops planted in undesignated areas
Chronicle Reporter
THE Bulawayo City Council will this year slash crops and fine residents who practise urban farming in undesignated areas.
Last year, council bowed to pressure from residents and politicians and let residents grow crops in restricted areas.
At a full council meeting last Wednesday, councillors resolved to uphold city bylaws even if it made them unpopular with residents.
They said environmental degradation caused by stream bank cultivation and arbitrary cropping had become too much.
The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) said the practice contravened statutory Instrument 7 of 2007.
