ENERGY and Power Development Minister Elton Mangoma was yesterday arrested on allegations of undermining the authority of the President.

He was picked up by detectives from the CID Law and Order section from Harare Central Police Station in the afternoon and released around 5:30pm after a warned and cautioned statement was recorded from him.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba confirmed the arrest saying Minister Mangoma allegedly undermined the authority of the President at an MDC-T rally on 18 May this year at Manhenga Business Centre in Bindura.

“I can confirm that he (Mangoma) was picked up for questioning in connection with a case of contravening Section 33 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act (undermining the authority of or insulting the President) at a rally,” she said.

THE Registrar General’s Office will now send SMS messages to passport applicants to collect their documents, with the applicants also able to download application forms on the Internet.

Registrar General Mr Tobaiwa Mudede yesterday said the digitalisation of operations would bring convenience to the public.

The applicants download the application forms online and take them to the passport office after filling them.

They would pay a $33 fee for the application form on submission.

The development was expected to improve efficiency and reduce time spent queueing for the forms.
