Sipepa accused of lying on water
Prosper Ndlovu
WATER Resources Development and Management Minister Samuel Sipepa Nkomo allegedly misled Cabinet on Wednesday when he said his ministry has repaired an additional 30 boreholes at the Nyamandlovu Aquifer in a bid to ease Bulawayo’s water problems.
This emerged during a civic society meeting in Bulawayo on Thursday where participants dismissed as untrue the Minister’s report.
This was after Industry and Commerce Minister Professor Welshman Ncube, who was pinned down by participants to comment on the water situation in the city, divulged Minister Nkomo’s report to Cabinet.
“I am not responsible for water but Minister Nkomo presented a report to Cabinet yesterday (Wednesday) where he said there was enough water for Bulawayo at the Nyamandlovu Aquifer. He reported that 30 or so boreholes have been rehabilitated at the aquifer and that his ministry was working on sinking new boreholes up to 160 metres underground,” said Prof Ncube.
