Zinwa fails to connect Mtshabezi generators

Chronicle Reporter
THE Zimbabwe National Water Authority (Zinwa) engineers have in the past three weeks reportedly been failing to connect generators that are supposed to start up pumps and bring Mtshabezi Dam water to Bulawayo.

The city’s water crisis is worsening with another supply dam, Upper Ncema, likely to be decommissioned this month.

Bulawayo is banking on Mtshabezi Dam, which is expected to supply about 17 000 cubic metres of water a day to Bulawayo and reduce water shedding period by 24 hours.

At the moment, the city is under a four-day water shedding schedule for all suburbs as it battles to conserve the little water left until the next rains.

An official at the Bulawayo City Council last Friday confirmed that the city was yet to access water from Mtshabezi Dam.
