Insuza man’s confession stuns court

A man employed as cattle tender in the Insuza area of Matabeleland North Province shocked a packed courtroom yesterday when he claimed that he raped a 12-year-old girl because he was craving for a woman.

The man aged 27, told regional magistrate Mrs Fadzai Mthombeni that he had initially tried to rape the girl on 7 November this year, but she pushed him away.

 

Church of England says no to women bishops

THE Church of England has voted against allowing women to become bishops, guaranteeing more internal strife over an issue that has for years divided the church for the world’s 80 million Anglicans.

Magistrate ordered to revisit judgment

THE High Court has ordered a Bulawayo regional magistrate to revisit a 12-year-jail term she  imposed on a juvenile who was 16 at the time of his conviction in June this year.

The boy from Plumtree had pleaded not guilty to rape, but was convicted by then Bulawayo         regional magistrate Mrs Fadzai Mthombeni.

THE Bulawayo South Rotary Club yesterday commissioned a borehole and handed over furniture worth $20 000 to Mayembe Adventist Primary School in Bulilima District.

The furniture included 92 double desks for 190 pupils at the school.

Energy saver bulbs distribution set to begin

ZESA will soon start distributing energy saving compact fluorescent bulbs in Bulawayo suburbs as part of efforts to save electricity.

The exercise, done free of charge, will start in Nkulumane, Nketa, Emganwini, Entumbane, Mpopoma, Njube and Emakhandeni suburbs.

Vendor to serve six years

A VENDOR who started breaking into business premises in 2006 and was arrested after breaking into 22 has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

Charles Lunga (54), of 246 Emakhandeni, was two weeks ago convicted on his own pleas of guilty to 22 counts of unlawful entry and 22 counts of theft by Bulawayo provincial magistrate Mrs Learnmore Mapiye.
