THE 2025 Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (ZIMSEC) final examinations started this week with practical subjects for secondary school candidates, while Grade Seven candidates sit for their first paper on Monday.
However, The Manica Post has established that the start of the end of year examination period has seen teachers demanding varying amounts of money from parents and guardians for revision material and some rebranded extra lessons.
As is now the norm in recent years, each time exams are around the corner or when the exams start, teachers conduct all night extra lessons dubbed ‘gala’, meant to tackle questions for a subject that candidates will be sitting for the next day.
Contacted for comment, Manicaland Provincial Education Director Mr Richard Gabaza, said: “Extra lessons are illegal in their diversity.”
On the state of schools and candidates’ preparedness for the end of the year exams, Mr Gabaza said: “All schools, both public and private are thoroughly preparing for the forthcoming ZIMSEC public exams at all levels (Grade Seven, 0 and A-Level). Schools Inspectors are on the ground monitoring the preparations.”
