3 perish in kombi crash

Three people died while 10 others were injured yesterday afternoon when a commuter omnibus they were travelling in overturned along the Harare-Mutoko Road.

The Nissan Caravan, which had 16 passengers on board, was travelling towards Murehwa from the capital when the accident occurred near the 36km peg.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed the accident which occurred near Gejo RaRubhi Farm.

“The commuter omnibus burst its left rear tyre and veered off the road to the right side before it overturned several times and landed on its right side,” he said.

He said two passengers died on the spot while the third died on admission at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals.

Chief Supt Nyathi said 10 people who were injured were taken to Chikumbi Clinic, Musami Mission Hospital and Parirenyatwa hospitals. “The names of the deceased are still being withheld until their next of kin have been advised,” he said.
