33-Miler marathon registration on

ASPIRING participants of the annual PPC Matopos 33-Miler Marathon have until 31 March to register for the $13 000 race.A� A�

The race a�� sponsored by Pretoria Portland Cement Zimbabwe a�� takes place on 1 April.

Registration fee is pegged at $10 per athlete.

Four different categories will be competed in, according to Bulawayo Athletics Board chairman Manuel Mpofu.

In the 33km race, athletes will start at the Matopos National Park while contestants in the 21km event are expected to start on an open area next to the Matopos Road and Woolendale Road.

Athletes taking part in the 10km race will converge near the Tshabalala Game Reserve before commencing while participants of the 5km event start at the Bulawayo Athletics Club.

a�?We have opened registration for this yeara��s race and athletes can go to the PPC offices and White City Stadium on or before 31 March. Athletes have a tendency of making last minute registration so we are calling on them to take advantage of the month-long grace period and register on time,a�? said Mpofu.

An official launch is expected to be held by the sponsors before the race.

The Matopos 33-Miler Marathon has been sponsored by PPC Zimbabwe since 2013 and last yeara��s edition was broadcast throughout the continent by subscription channel SuperSport.

The course of the marathon which starts from the Matopo National Park has been measured and certified by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and also serves as a qualifying event for the Comrades Marathon in South Africa.
