A Bulawayo woman sensationally claimed that her husband who is a member of an Apostolic sect is in the habit of pouring cold water all over her body each time they have a domestic dispute.
Felistas Matonda told Bulawayo Civil Court magistrate Sheunesu Matova that her husband Clemence Mapope was also forcing her to have sex adding that if she refused he resorted to violence.
Matonda further claimed that her husband was also physically abusing her while suspecting her of infidelity.
a?My husband is abusing me as he is always beating me up and pouring cold water all over the body before kicking me out of the house. This happens whenever we have a misunderstanding.
a?The other day I attended an all night prayer together with our two sons and when we came back he started beating me up while accusing me of sleeping at a boyfriendas place. He is also forcing me to have sexual intercourse with him and whenever I refuse he assaults me. As a result of his abuse I am now living in fear and I want the court to protect me,a? she said.
When asked to respond to his wifeas accusations, Mapope said she was lying against him.
a?She is not telling the truth. What happened is that I am a member of an apostolic sect and whenever I asked her to go to church she refused. I was surprised the other day when she came back home in the morning lying that she wasA from the church. When I quizzed her where she had been, she said I should not bother her.
a?After that altercation I didnat speak to her until the following day when I confronted her after I intercepted a message in her phone which had been sent to her by her sister talking about boyfriends.
a?This is despite the fact that her sister is also married. That is the only occasion I assaulted her as a way of reprimanding her,a? said Mapope.
In his ruling the magistrate however, ordered Mapope not to physically and sexually abuse or harass his wife and evict her from their matrimonial home. They were further referred for counselling.
