AFTER managing to gain a measure of revenge over their bitter rivals Inno Cosmos in a ZIFA Division Two League Two match at Tafara High 1 on Saturday, Ali Sundowns coach Andrea Yudah said they are now looking forward to a strong finish in the championship race as well as doing well in the Cup tournament to be held early next month.
The ZIFA Harare Province Division Two A and B will launch a Cup tournament this Saturday with the League chairman Robert Tembo saying they are expecting a single representative from all the clubs for Saturday’s launch.
“We are going to launch the end of season knock-out tournament that will see teams from both A and B regions clash after the curtain comes down.
“We are left with three games so we need to give the teams something to cheer them after the conclusion of a long season,” said Tembo.
Ali Sundowns came into the weekend’s tension-filled match against Inno Cosmos as the underdogs as they had been beaten at their Mabvuku Number 1 Ground backyard in the first match but a Desire “Chinzimbe” Shereni screamer in the 38th minutes made the difference during Saturday’s match.
Coming into Saturday’s game both team owners Desmund Ali and Innocent Mugabe, who are close friends, were going for the bragging rights as they trail leaders Makomo, Mabvuku United and Simbisa.
With only nine points to play for before the league’s curtain comes down, Yudah said they are looking forward to a strong finish and to do well in the Cup games.
“I am happy with the way the boys are performing it is our third win in a row and it motivates us as a team. We are taking each game as it comes and we prepare differently for each game, especially with the coming on board of the Cup competition which will be introduced this weekend.
“The team is improving with each outing and I am happy with the support we are getting from our sponsor Desmund Ali who has been with us through difficult and good times,” said Yudah.
The match, which had a huge turnout for this Second Division encounter, saw the fans aligning themselves to Mabvuku and Tafara.
Arnold Dangarembizi, the Inno Cosmos coach, is still hopeful that they will bounce back stronger.
“It was a painful defeat, but we are going to work hard as a team and make sure that we make up on some mistakes we made in our last game. The players have been working hard and they deserve credit on where we are standing on the log table.
“We are learning the ropes and it being our first season in Division Two we are happy with our position as we want to finish in the top four which is still possible.
“I am happy that most of our players are young with an average age of 22 years and they have a bright future ahead of them,” said Dangarembizi.
