A MOB from Bulawayoas Cowdray Park suburb attacked a man who tried to rape a granny and broke his arm after stamping on his privates.

Sibusiso Ncube (32) allegedly pounced on the 50-year-old woman as she was harvesting maize from her fields last Wednesday.

However, the granny fought off Ncube who was punching her face while choking her.

The complainant, residents said, would scream at intervals as she wrestled Ncube.

Her cries for help attracted the residents who meted out mob justice on Ncube.

The woman whose face was swollen, narrated her ordeal to B-Metro.

a?I was going about my business at my piece of land at about 7am when a man approached me from behind and asked if I was scared of him,a? she said.

The attacker threatened to kill her while demanding that she opens her legs.

a?I was defiant saying I would kill him as well. I continued to scream and some people heard me and came to my rescue,a? she said.

The complainantas neighbour said she was shocked by the attempted sex attack on the widow who fends for her family through urban farming.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango applauded the residents for effecting a citizensa arrest.

However, she said the public should never take the law into their hands.

a?Mob justice is a bad thing because people end up committing offences while trying to solve a crime,a? she said.

Insp Simango noted that last month in the same suburb a mob assaulted a suspected thief to death.A The suspect had broken into two houses.
