AUTHOR Nate Gwenambira says pain and suffering inspired him to write his new collection of poetry anthology titled Breakfast With Death.
This is the second poetry book the author has launched in recent years. Speaking to H-Metro, Gwenambira said the new collection was a must-purchase for readers.
“This book forces the reader to reflect on their life journey, in the face of death, which looms ahead.
“This book is an attempt to bring to the fore what’s fundamentally wrong about the society we live in.
“The book develops around the issue of us being heirs of poverty, a people who inherited the rags of the struggles our fathers and mothers faced,” he said.
He said the book captures the plight of living in foreign lands.
“It further captures the Diaspora experience, whereby Zimbabweans go across the Limpopo hoping for this Utopia that still remains elusive.
“It portrays the struggles that confront people in foreign lands, where life is, in itself brutal, unforgiving and not a bed of roses, as many would want us to believe.
“Consequently, it results in individuals coming back home empty-handed, only to die difficult deaths, leaving nothing for their offspring to live on,” he said.
He added: “In a nutshell, a Breakfast With Death eagerly awaits us, and for some, death could provide the much-needed rest from a world full of pain.
“After enduring a lifetime of deprivation, it begs the question, is death not liberating us after all?
“The intention was to present our stories through poetry.”
“I was inspired to write this book by the social realities of the ordinary Zimbabwean.
“I tend to put too much emphasis on the plight of the poor and that is what inspired this collection.”
