Avoid embarrassment, secure those bits

HELLO there everyone, I hope you had a great week. This week I will be tackling a question I have been asked many times before.

Why do I wear wigs and how do I look after them?

If I was any other woman, I would say “mind your own business” kikiki, but because I am me, I am going to tell you.

This week I am wearing a black layered wig. I am not a weave person. I find weaves pull at my hair . Anyway, back to wigs, to be honest with you, any hair that is not mine is a problem for me, but like I said I do it for convenience. So this month, I decided to go with a black colour. My natural hair colour is auburn/ginger, so going black confused me a bit, seriously. Unfortunately, I do not wear eye-liner because my eyes react, but I wear Mascara, so I tried that. After trying different sorts of make-up, still the wig was not looking okay, so tried it at a slightly different angle. Well, it worked perfectly. People who knew me, mistook me for an Asian beauty. First wigs are not meant to be permanently. E Also wigs brush again the back of your head and you hairline, so inevitably you are going to damage those little hairs. I would suggest if you wear a wig, wear it with a stocking underneath to protect your hair.

I also suggests that you put your hair in plaits, either banana plaits or braids. This protects your hair from damage, every time you move your wig on, off and in place.

I do not spray my wigs because I find it leaves them looking like grass quicker than if I leave it oil-less. I did find a bottle of oil for wigs from Mozambique, excellent stuff, but it smells (not bad I am sure, just not my smell).

When washing my wig, Mostly I wash it in shampoo water until the water changes colour (dirt). Then I rinse it with cold water and then soak it in warm water with conditioner. After a few minutes I remove it and rinse it slightly so as not to remove all the conditioner (conditioner helps protect it). I let it dry over night, without brushing it out.

In the morning I brush it back into its style. Now if after a while the wig is looking like grass, I simply steam it while it is dry (using a steam blower). do not sleep with my wig on because I find it hard to sleep with it. It just feels so un-natural to have this thing on my head that is not attached to it. I take it off before I bath, and turn it upside down, inside out in a ball. The wigs I buy have combs in them that I can attach to my plaits. The Weekender’s Here and There column, if you know what I mean. But people I have spoken to say that as long as they attached the straps at the back of the wigs, it should be secure enough — good for them — I am not taking a chance. Oh, that reminds me to share this story. We were guests at a church revival the other day where all women were dressed like queens (excellent), it was so nice to see. In fact, come to think of it, none had natural hair. They had braids, weaves and wigs — so sad. But anyway, the pastor in charge made an altar call which found many women up front. He proceeded to lay hands on all of them and they shook their heads while falling down. Well, I do not know what happened, but one of the ladies he prayed for fell one way and her wig stayed in the pastor’s hand kikiki. . . not funny I know. . . ah yah! I found myself very unspiritual at that moment as I burst into laughter. The poor woman had no idea her head covering was no longer with her as she lay slain on the floor. I did not see how she made her way through the crowd back to her seat with her hair back to front, but when I returned she was gone. Shame, sorry dear!

So the moral of this, is women secure your bits before you go up for prayers. Well, that is it from me this week folks, have a blessed week.
