ACTION in the Manicaland Basketball Association league campaign has moved into the third round, a stage many within the game believe will define how the rest of the season unfolds.
With two rounds already completed, the competition is beginning to take shape.
Some teams have started to pull ahead, while others are under increasing pressure to find consistency and keep their playoff hopes alive.
The intensity on the court has noticeably risen, with every game now carrying greater significance.
In a notable development, the association is currently running three leagues concurrently — the Major League, WMBA, and Mutare League — a structure that reflects the steady growth of basketball in Manicaland, and increased participation across different levels of the game.
Speaking on the development, Manicaland Basketball Association publicist, Munashe Chifamba, highlighted the importance of this phase.
“The third round is where the league really comes alive. Managing three leagues at the same time is not easy, but it shows how much the sport is expanding in Manicaland. Teams now need discipline, depth, and strong game management to stay competitive,” he said.
Fans across the province have been treated to exciting encounters, with emerging players making their mark, and experienced athletes continuing to lead from the front. The growing competitiveness of the league has not gone unnoticed.
Chifamba praised the overall standard of the games:
“We are impressed by the level of commitment and sportsmanship shown by the teams so far. The fact that we are successfully running multiple leagues at once is a sign of real progress for basketball in this region.”
As the league progresses, coaches are expected to refine their strategies, focusing on defensive organisation and sharper offensive execution.
The margin for error is now minimal, and small details could make the difference between victory and defeat.
Adding to the significance of the remaining fixtures is the upcoming national league competition set to take place in Bulawayo. Teams are, not only competing for local honours, but are also preparing to represent the province on a bigger stage.
“These games are crucial for preparation. We want our teams to be competitive at national level, and this stage of the league helps them build the cohesion and confidence needed,” explained Chifamba.
Supporters have also been urged to continue backing their teams as the season gains momentum.
With the stakes higher than ever, the third round promises thrilling action and a clearer indication of genuine title contenders. Chifamba added: “Manicaland Basketball Association remains committed to promote the growth of basketball and providing a platform for athletes to excel at both provincial and national levels.”
