BINGA South villagers are ready to celebrate Heroes and Defense Forces Holidays through sport and music during a three day event expected to draw thousands of people to Mupambe Primary School Ground with a special performance by Bio Mudimba and Money Micho from Zambia.
This year’s Heroes Day will be celebrated on next week Monday 10 August 2026 followed by Defense Forces on Tuesday, 11 August 2026.
The sporting event will feature 24 soccer teams while netball will have 11 netball teams participating.
The events is organised by Noah Mumpande with various businesses participating through sponsorship and exhibitions.
“The tournament will start on Sunday and will run till August 12. We will be having 24 soccer teams and 11 netball teams.
“A number of companies, Government departments and ministries are also supporting,” said Mr Mumpande.
“The aim of the tournament is not just sports but to educate our youths about dangers of drug and substance abuse. We are also declaring zero tolerance against early child marriages and we want to expose our talent to the world.”
Mr Mumpande said Mucheso Culture Dance Group will feature on the entertainment front.
He said Binga has lot of talent in sports but due to being far from major cites it is difficult to expose it to the whole country.
“The event will also draw our traditional leaders, councillors because we want to support efforts being made by The Second Republic to uplift our district. The event will be held under the theme: “Honouring our Heroes, Building Our Future”, he said.
A number of prizes have been secured with sports kits, balls and cash to be won during the tournament.
Mr Mumpande said the tournament also provides a platform for local business to boost their sales due to the number of villagers and guest to grace the event.
