It seems the 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Black Mambas on Sunday was the final straw for the team, which have been struggling in the latter stages of the league campaign, after a good start in their first season.
Yesterday, club chairman Moses Shumba said they had parted ways with the former Dynamos players.
“Chidzambwa has resigned after failing to take the team into the top eight. Our objective was a top eight finish and everything looked on course.
“When we assembled the team with the calibre of players we got, we were confident that the team would do well given the effort and the resources.
“We appreciate what the technical team did and they also agreed that they had failed and we parted ways amicably.
“We are not looking at appointing another coach before the season ends. Maybe the senior players will take charge of the team or by end of week we may have an interim measure for the last game against Chicken Inn,” said Shumba.
The former Warriors mentor said he had a good season.
In his contract he was also promised a car if he managed to finish in the top half.
“They had given us a target of top eight so that is the issue. We had a good season with the club though we couldn’t meet the target.
“We avoided relegation, didn’t fight it, but the club wanted a top eight finish. It is back to the drawing board and we will see how it goes in the off-season,” said Chidzambwa.
Chidzambwa joins Philani Ncube who was fired by Chicken Inn last week and replaced with Adam Ndlovu.
Away from the coaches’ circus, all the action was happening at the bottom of the log as teams raced against time to pick up the points on offer.
The weekend’s biggest winners were Black Mambas who went into the match against Blue Ribbon with the chop hanging over their head but came survived relegation in fine fashion with their biggest win this season.
With a single relegation slot still available, the battle is now down to three teams – Shabanie (31points), Monomotapa(33points) and Masvingo (34points).
Shabanie no longer have their destiny in their hands and a win against Highlanders alone will not guarantee them survival.
Interestingly, Monomotapa and Masvingo have a date in the last game with a draw enough for both of them to survive.
Chinda Boys coach Luke Masomere said he was still hopeful of survival and fired a broadside at his senior players for letting the club down.
“We played stupid football in Bulawayo because most of our senior players don’t respect football because of their age.
“How can they go and attend Oliver Mtukudzi’s show in Masvingo ahead of such a crucial game?
“They came in the early hours of Saturday and even their performance was below par. I am not sleeping, thinking about survival, the fans are also worried but some senior players chose not to sleep by attending a musical show.
“We didn’t play our normal game against Chicken Inn. We were awarded a penalty and missed it, the hosts were given a red card and finished with 10 men but still they remained the better side. It wasn’t our day.
“We still have a chance against Highlanders. We need to win and hope other results go our way. Something is going to happen between Monoz and Masvingo and Shabanie will survive,” said Masomere.
Monomotapa assistant coach Nkululeko Dhlamini was pleased with the point picked up away in their goalless draw against Bosso which leaves them now seeking a point in their last match to consolidate their Premiership stay.
“We have destiny in our hands and the fact that we are playing one of the relegation candidates means it is up to us. We picked up a vital point away and we just have to be focused and pick up the needed point but we will go all out for a win just to be sure,” said Dhlamini.
Masvingo United coach Ralph Kawondera also appears to have rescued the club from relegation.
The former Dynamos assistant coach watched as his team slumped to a 5-2 at the Colliery. But his team remains in the hunt needing only a point to survive.
“We just need a draw against Monomotapa and we will not put ourselves under pressure. We will just go out for that draw,” said Kawondera.
