HIGHLANDERS have embarked on an ambitious project to erect a perimeter wall around the clubhouse.
The club says the wall would upgrade the clubhouse to a venue for public events to generate money to help the 90-year-old club.
The total cost of the project is pegged at $151 000.
Highlanders CEO Ndumiso Gumede said they intended to rope in support of the business community to see the project through.
Instead of walking around with a begging bowl for donations to erect the perimeter wall, the club is instead offering adverting space for companies and organisations willing to partner in the project.
Interested companies and organisations will be required to buy a section of the perimeter wall, a three-metre block for $550.
In exchange they will enjoy two years of advertising on the block. The number of blocks a company can buy is not limited to one.
The perimeter wall is about 900 metres.
a?We are giving companies a chance to partner us in erecting the perimeter wall around the clubhouse in exchange for advertising space. The cost of the project might appear exorbitant but we believe with the support of businesspeople, not only those based in Bulawayo, we will see it through.
a?Imagine the revenue the club will raise from hosting different events such as musical shows and concerts.
Ultimately the idea is to make the club self sustainable,a? said Gumede.
A sample of the advertising space has already been erected.
Long time Bosso benefactor Kenneth Mhlophe, through his company Nokel Security, has pledged to buy two blocks to advertise his security entity.
Mhlophe also concurred with Gumede that Bosso needed to tap from its vast supporter base which comprises businesspeople around the country and also in the Diaspora.
a?All it takes is for around 275 companies, organisations and even Highlanders supporters chapters to buy advertising space for the project to be a success. Highlanders commands huge numbers of supporters in and outside the country with a lot of businesspeople who support the team so with the right support the project should be finished on time,a? said Mhlophe.
He said he would lobby fellow businesspeople to take up the initiative.
